Victoria Falls, one of the seven natural wonders of the world, is reputedly the
largest wall of falling water on earth. Its 1700 m (just over one mile) breadth
and height of 108 m forms an incredible spectacle. Although larger than
Niagara, the seasonal variance reduces the average flow to considerably less
than Niagara's, but it remains a fantastic experience. In full flood, the spray
cloud formed by the deluge can reach almost 800 m high, and the roar of water
can be heard many kilometres away, as the Zambezi River pours anything from
about 5 000 tonnes/second to about 12 500 t/sec. of water over the
precipice.
