South Africa is often referred to as "The World in One Country", a claim that does justice to its immense diversity of wildlife, landscapes, mineral wealth, people and cultural heritage. Covering an area of approximately 1.2 million square kms, South Africa is one of the richest countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, and enjoys the best and most modern infra-structure in the sub-continent. Having recently passed through a transition to democracy, the country's population live together in a harmony almost unique, considering the huge ethnic, cultural and religious diversity reflected in its society.
