Green Bushpig Safaris offers range of day
excursions and short tours in the Johannesburg and Pretoria regions. These
include (but are not limited to):
 Cradle of
Humankind
|
(Maropeng, Rhino & Lion Park, Lesedi or combinations). The
Maropeng Interpretation Centre provides an intriguing insight into the
development of our Earth and the human creatures that have penetrated every
habitat imaginable on our planet. This is followed by a visit to the nearby
Rhino and Lion Park, where a visit to the Wonder Caves and a game drive are
included.
In the late
afternoon, we travel to the Lesedi Cultural Village, where we join some of the
tribal folk of South Africa in their song and dance routines, and visit
replicas of the traditional villages in which these people used to live. Lesedi
provides an enthralling insight into the lives of South Africa's indigenous
peoples. Dinner is a sumptuous affair, and you'll have the opportunity of
tasting a wide variety of local dishes.

 Elephant Sanctuary
or De Wildt Cheetah
Sanctuary
|
An early wake-up call is required to beat the elephants to the
bathroom before we head out early to the Elephant Sanctuary. We have the chance
to walk with elephants, interact with them and assist in feeding them.
Eventually we bid our new friends goodbye, continue to a craft village just
down the road and have the opportunity of browsing and buying souvenirs. After
lunch, we visit one of South Africa's best-known Cheetah rescue and
rehabilitation centres where several endangered species are
bred.

 Gold Reef City
or Cullinan Diamond
Mine
|
Gold Reef City is a restored mining village reflecting the
"good old days" of mining in Johannesburg. A large theme park adjoins the
village providing a host of adventure activities for adults and youngsters
alike.
The discovery of
the world's largest gem diamond (over 3000 carats) about 100 years ago made the
Cullinan Diamond Mine world famous, and today the Cullinan mine still produces
some of the finest gems in the world. Both underground and surface tours of
this incredible mine are available.

 Johannesburg,
Soweto &/or Pretoria city
tours
|
The story of Johannesburg is the story of gold. The discovery
of the precious metal in the late 1800's made Johannesburg the commercial,
industrial and mining capital of South Africa.
The capital city of Pretoria is home to a plethora
of historical and cultural treasures. Our visit can take us to venues like the
Mapungubwe museum located in Pretoria (celebrating one of the early African
trading kingdoms, held in awe by the neighbouring tribes about 1000 years ago).
Other places of interest in Pretoria include the Union Buildings, Church
Square, the Voortrekker Monument, and Freedom Park.
Another fascinating experience is a visit to the
pulsating township of Soweto. In the past Soweto housed huge numbers of migrant
labourers who worked in the mines, usually in appalling conditions. Today, it
is a sprawling and dynamic town which we will explore, trying to obtain an
appreciation for its history and heritage.

 Pilanesberg
&/or Sun
City
|
Pilanesberg National Park, a Big-5 game reserve located
northwest of Pretoria, offers excellent game viewing opportunities within
reasonable reach of Gauteng. This unique reserve incorporates the eroded
remains of a huge volcano, which erupted over 1000-million years ago. The
reserve contains most of SA's mammal species, as well as over 300 bird
species.
Nestled in one
of the valleys of the old volcano lies one of South Africa's best-known
adventure playgrounds - Sun City! The complex incorporates four large hotels,
an entertainment theatre, several casinos, the famous "Valley of the Waves",
two famous golf courses, and a host of outdoor activities and water
sports.
Note that these
two components do not have to be combined; they may be enjoyed
separately.
